The most visible and recognizable ensemble in Citrus County, is the Citrus High School âMarching âCanesâ. This ensemble is unique and special as it combines all facets of the program. Woodwinds, Brass, Concert Percussion, Marching Percussion, and the Colorguard are all part of the CHS Marching Band.
The Marching âCanes seek to expose our students to an all-encompassing curriculum. The ensemble serves both as an entertainment group for school and community events while at the same time exploring all trends in the modern marching activity. Furthermore, the marching band serves as a âfamilyâ for our students helping them to serve our school and community while at the same time providing students a safe âhomeâ within the walls of our school.
Students are provided many performance opportunities throughout marching season. The marching band performs at all Citrus High School Varsity football games. Additionally, the band competes in an average of six marching contests per season both in FBA Music Performance Assessments and Florida Marching Band Coalition sanctioned events.
The marching band maintains an active rehearsal schedule. Rehearsals begin in May when we leave for our annual Spring Retreat and the new incoming freshmen get a first taste of what it means to be a member of the Marching âCanes. Additionally, rehearsals take place periodically throughout the summer culminating with our summer âBand Campâ. During the school year regular ensemble rehearsals begin twice a week after school with a few âsectionalsâ as needed. Marching season concludes in November with the Florida Marching Band State Championships where we are regular semi-finalists and hold the distinction of the 2002 State Champions. Schedules are posted months in advance to help families plan for their students to attend all of these exciting, educational, and worthwhile activities.
